It’s about the best Christmas gift Yellow Medicine East basketball players could hope for. They’re definitely not going to take it back. It’s the perfect size, it’s classy and it’s just what everyone wants: To be undefeated and sit alone atop the West Central Conference standings heading into the Christmas break and coming off a five-game road stretch—the toughest stretch of games on YME’s schedule.

With the season now paused until Tuesday, Jan. 4, the YME Sting stand alone as the lone undefeated team in the WCC-South after beating Benson 57-42 Tuesday night at Espeland Gymnasium.

Both YME and Benson entered the game undefeated.

Yet, Benson had no answer for YME’s low post duo Angie Scheffler and Emily Baker. The twosome each scored double-doubles of 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Sting senior guard Steph Larson also broke out in the contest scoring 15 points and all three of YME’s three-pointers, while also snagging four steals in her best offensive performance of the season.

YME shot 49 percent from the field, while holding Benson to just 33 percent shooting.
The Sting look to continue their six-game winning streak Tuesday, Jan. 4 at Espeland against BOLD.
