I wanted to write because I thought Advocate Tribune readers might appreciate hearing the following:
This is the 50th year of the Peace Corps! Some of you probably remember that I wrote a daily diary for the Advocate the entire two years I was in the Philippines. (I thought it might update some readers on what has happened to a few of them.)
Well, at Christmastime I received a call from two Filipinos who said, “We finally found you. We had tried to contact you, but were told you had ‘died of a brain tumor,’ but now we found you.” Some of the students are now U. S. citizens, living in a Filipino community in California. One gal worked for the United Nations for 30 years and has now retired. Others came here and have been nurses – now living in California. One of my students is now a charge nurse in critical care in a hospital there. She was one of two students given a scholarship to Boston where she received her degrees. We have been sending emails ever since Christmas!
What our young people have done through such an organization as the Peace Corps has done wonderful things for many! Thought some of the readers might appreciate an update on a few Peace Corps results...We continue to pray for them and our world.
