Prior to Tuesday’s season opening match, Yellow Medicine East head boys’ tennis coach Jeff Lalim said, “I think it’s going to be a close match,” when asked about his team’s chances against conference rival MACCRAY.

“Both teams are going to be young. If we have our top players ready to go, it’s going to be close. With John Howard there at MACCRAY, between the two of us, it’s always going to be close. We’re both going to have some young players and it’s going to be fun.”

After Tuesday’s match, it seems Lalim had underestimated his team as they vanquished the Wolverines with a 5-2 victory.

The Sting got singles wins from No. 1 player Tyler Kotlowski and No. 3 player David Nowacki.
YME swept the doubles matches with teams of Carter Iverson and Brandon Repsher, Chris Garding and Grant Elliot, and James DeJager and Todd Nowacki each winning handily.
