Yellow Medicine East head coach Kristi Klassen was disappointed in her team after they kicked around eight errors—four in what would be the game winning seventh inning for Dawson-Boyd—following a 6-3 loss in the Sting’s home and season opener.

“It’s too bad,” said Klassen after the game. “Allie (Trudel) pitched a really good game, she hit her spots and our defense was just not there for her. I know it’s the first game, but it’s frustrating to see. These kids have all played before. This isn’t new.”

The Blackjacks produced three runs in the seventh to break a 3-3 tie behind no hits and four YME errors.

Junior Allie Trudel, a four year starter at pitcher for the Sting, struck out eight, surrendered just five hits—all of them singles—and issued just one walk while not giving up an earned run in a complete-game loss for the Sting.

The Sting got all of their runs in the fourth inning when Cassie Struffert drew a bases-loaded walk, Angie Scheffler scored on a passed ball and Haley Fischer hit an RBI single.

Said Klassen “These kids will never quit. They’ve played a lot of sports throughout their years. They’re never going to quit. It’s just hard to keep battling every game when you dig yourself a big hole. It’s reminiscent of how we played last season. We get in trouble early, then we’re always scratching and clawing to get back.”
