The YME School Board approved a contract with the Education Minnesota Yellow Medicine East (EMYME) teacher’s association for 2011 – 2013. The teachers approved the contract by a two thirds majority on March 28. The board approved the contract at Monday night’s school board meeting.
Changes in the financial structure of the salary matrix and the extra-curricular salary schedule were the most notable changes in the contract. In year two of the contract, step 1 will be eliminated and the matrix becomes 13 steps with a career step. In addition to the changes in the steps a Master’s plus 20 semester credits lane was added.
The change in the matrix gives the district the advantage of having the 2012-2013 first year teachers’ salary of $33,025 competitive with neighboring districts.
The extra-curricular salary schedule becomes percentage based tied to the Bachelor’s lane. When an increase is negotiated for the salary matrix it automatically carries through to the extra-curricular schedule.
Salaries will increase in year 1 by 1 percent to the salary matrix and a one-time $300 stipend for teachers on the Career Step. In year 2 the salary matrix will increase by 1.5 percent.
