Yellow Medicine East powered out a conference victory Thursday evening winning a 12-8 slugfest over up-river rival Montevideo in Montevideo.

After trotting out to a reasonable 3-0 lead, the Sting exploded with six runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth to take a 12-0 lead after their half of the fifth.

The ThunderHawks finally got to Sting starting pitcher Allie Trudel in their half of the fifth with a menacing six runs, then tacked on another two runs in the sixth to threaten what had been an imposing YME lead. Montevideo’s Dani Emkes highlighted the fifth inning break-out with a inside-the-park home run.

Yet, the Montevideo threat would end with Trudel closing the complete game in the seventh and Montevideo coming up short.

Six players recorded hits for YME. Nena McCalla hit 2-for-5 with two runs, a triple and three RBIs. Jennessa Hoffman hit 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Meanwhile, Trudel went 3-for-5 and added another two RBIs to the YME total.

From the circle, Trudel struck out seven batters, walked three and gave up 13 hits.
YME improves to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play after the victory.
