Montevideo 3, YME 2
Montevideo’s Colton Vien knocked a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to score Brett Bergeson to beat Yellow Medicine East 3-2 Thursday evening in Montevideo.
The Sting led 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning after scoring on a Devon Dyrdahl RBI ground-out in the third and following a sixth inning base hit knock from Adam Koepke.
Montevideo tied the game in the bottom of sixth with Ricky Schmitz grounding out to score Austin Hoehne.
A scoreless seventh then pushed the game into extra innings with Montevideo holding off the Sting until Bergeson led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, was bunted into scoring position and scored on Vien’s walk-off single.
Aaron Zieske pitched the first five innings for the Sting (1-2, 0-1), striking out six but walking four. Brendon Steckelberg went two innings, striking out one while walking three. Jake Sharkey took the loss for YME, pitching the final 1 1/3 innings, giving up the final run.
Adam Koepke was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Brandon Grund was 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the loss.
