Gary Mitlyng, 64, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26 at Bergen Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo. Visitation begins one hour prior to services at the church and continues at the VFW following the service and military honors.
Burial will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Gary Jerome Mitlyng was born on April 3, 1948, in Montevideo, the son of George and Stella (Quaal) Mitlyng. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bergen Lutheran Church and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1966. Gary then attended Vocational College in Willmar for mechanics from 1967 – 1968.
Gary joined the United States Navy in 1969 and served his country as an aircraft mechanic until his honorable discharge in 1975. Upon his return home, Gary was employed in the road construction business.
Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and tinkering with anything mechanical. He also loved socializing and spending time with his many friends.
Surviving family included his three sisters: Janice (James) Zoch of Alexandria, Connie Mitlyng of Maple Grove, and Pamela (Jack) Hansen of Benson, Arizona; 12 nieces and nephews and 17 grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Ronald and Lyndon; sister Margaret Anderson; niece Cathy Paulson and nephew Brad Mitlyng.
