LqPV 12, YME 5
Yellow Medicine East was gone with the wind Friday as LqPV buffeted the home team with 12 runs as winds swirled down the river valley and over Richter Field.
The Eagles would post six runs in the first inning and six runs in the fourth to blow the Sting away in a 12-5 conference victory.
In the squall, the two teams would combine for 25 hits as outfielders did their best to track down gusty flyballs.
Sam Haas, the winning pitcher for LQPV, hit a double, triple and a single to lead the Eagles’ 14-hit barrage. Eric Smith went 3-for-3 and John Weeding and Paul Blom each supplied a pair of hits.
Meanwhile, YME’s 11-hit offense was led by Ryan Reishus with a double and a single for 3 RBIs. Adam Koepke had 2 hits, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Aaron Zieske also had a pair of hits.
YME?senior pitcher Jake Sharkey had a short night working just 1/3 of an inning as the Eagles breezed to their 6-0 lead. Conor Christenson came on and worked the next tree innings, though his result would be the same; giving up another six runs.
Aaron Zieske then came on in relief and pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, thankfully not giving up a run and strikingout five.
Offensively for YME, Ryan Reishus went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Adam Koepke went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, and Zieske added a pair of hits.
