  •      Kermin Rude, 97, of Granite Falls, died Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Clarkfield Care Center.              Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5, at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church, with burial at Hawk Creek Lutheran Cemetery.
         Kermin Odean Rude was born October 22, 1914, the son of Torger G. and Josephine (Hanson) Rude.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the United Lutheran Church in Granite Falls.  Kermin has served his church as a choir member since September of 1929, with the exception of the four years while serving his country in the United States Navy during World War II.  Immediately following his discharge from the service he was employed by the city as Superintendent of the Municipal Power Plant and Water Treatment Plant, serving until January of 1977, after serving for 31 years. In November of 1943, he was united in marriage to Jean Stacey of Cleveland, Ohio.  To this union a daughter Jeanette Kristine was born. He has been a lifelong resident of this community engaging himself in different activities of Granite Falls.  Kermie, as he was called by his friends, had a lifelong membership in both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and at two separate terms served as Post Commander of the American Legion.  He has served as a deacon in the church, director in MVTV; director in the Yellow Medicine Historical Society and Museum and was a member of the Sons of Norway Elvidal #509.  He also served on the Granite Falls Fire Department from 1945 until 1976.
        He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Jean, and a grandson Lawrence ‘Larry’ Howard.
    He is survived by his daughter Jeanette (James) Howard; grandchildren Vicki Howard-Herrel and James Dale Howard; great grandchildren: Kendal, Libby, Troy and Ethan.
        Arrangements were with the Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
