  • With front man Clint Lecy Jr., Minnesota’s own country-rock band, the Canyon Cowboys have   been packing venues for the past half-dozen years with their blend of tight vocals, polished sound and high energy stage presence.
If the name rings a bell, locals are recalling Clint Lecy Sr. whose band “Kolt” was a popular Western Fest Street Dance act during the groups heyday in the 80s and 90s.
Like Lecy Sr., “Junior” has been honing his craft since he was old enough to hold an instrument. He  is considered one of the best guitar pickers in the state, garnering a few national guitar picking titles from competitions held in Nashville to attest to this fact, and yet is best known for his voice, as he harbors a rare set of vocal chords that are just as at home soothing spirits as they are inciting them.
“The vocals and harmonies are just really tight,” he admits.
Lecy, Jr.’s pipes are so good that he was accepted onto the television show “The Voice” this past season and would have likely had a national audience by now if he hadn’t had to forego his invitation in order to be in the presence of his father who was recently diagnosed with throat cancer. As it is, producers have asked him to resubmit his audition tape in light of the situation and he’s been told he’ll be a shoe-in to be re-invited on to The Voice next season.
Until then Lecy, Jr. and the Canyon Cowboys be playing venues throughout the north midwest––with this weekend’s show being a particular treat because Lecy junior and senior will be playing together despite the diagnosis.
“The doctor gave him an ok,” said Lecy, Jr.  “I’m looking forward to playing with him because I don’t how much longer I’ll be able to ... he may not be doing much singing after this one.”
Featuring several original songs written by Lecy, Jr. himself including "This Old Cowboy’s Been Thrown."  “Dirt Road Crusin',” and “Country Rock,” The Canyon Cowboys are a cover band that  appeals to a diversity of palates by offering a country sound infused with a bit of the blues, some classic rock and a dash of the 50s.
“We love playing outdoors and getting. everybody into the music,” said  Lecy, Jr.  ...  “To have the crowd throw the energy back at us... we just kind of feed off it. It’s all about providing great entertainment and just having a good time.”
