To the Editor:
Quotation: Bureaucracies are inherently anti-democratic. Bureaucrats derive their power from their position in the structure, not from their relations with the people they are supposed to serve. The people are not masters of the bureaucracy, but its clients. (Alan Keyes)
Name the top priority of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR):
1. Control invasive species in Minnesota lakes and rivers.
2. Restore pheasant populations and habitat.
3. Eradicate the emerald ash borer.
4. Remove the Minnesota Falls Dam.
From my perspective it would be the removal of the Minnesota Falls Dam in that it is the only thing in which they have enjoyed a measure of success. As the saying goes - in South Dakota, game wardens measure the quantity of fish in your boat. In Minnesota, they measure the quantity of weeds on your trailer.
For those local economic development officials hoping to develop tourism as it relates to the scenic Minnesota River Valley, I recommend you save your money. Nobody is going to want to spend money to see a creek running through a weed bed during the height of tourist season. In my opinion, Granite Falls, the Jewel of the Minnesota River Valley, just got dimmer. What a shame!
Obviously, I?am personally affected by the dam’s removal. There, I got that off my chest but I?doubt I am going to feel any better.
