The State Fire Marshal’s office and the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s office investigated a fire that burned a rural residence at 4463 240th Ave., near Hazel Run at 11:19 p.m. Monday. Extensive damage was done to the house.
Aaron Ohlson, 35, of rural Hazel Run was arrested in connection to the blaze. According to YMC Sheriff Bill Flaten, the investigation pointed to the fire being deliberately set. Ohlson is being charged with First Degree Arson in connection with the incident. He was expected to make an initial court appearance on Wednesday as this edition of the Advocate Tribune was going to press. The maximum penalty for 1st Degree Arson to a dwelling is 20 years in jail and/or a $20,000 fine.
The Clarkfield Fire Department and Ambulance, the Hanley Falls Fire Department, and the Granite Falls Ambulance, were called to the scene.
