If there’s something to be said for the music scene of the 40s, 50s and 60s, it is that it has a rare ability to offer something that appeals to everyone, says Granite Falls Area Community Theater (GFACT)?Vice-President Carrie Speh.
“That’s the beauty of those three decades, there’s such a variety. Whoever comes is going to find something they like.”
This Friday, August 3, GFACT is collaborating with the Yellow Medicine East Drama Club to host the “River Valley Revue,” a dinner and musical performance, featuring renditions of 40s, 50s and 60s hits as performed by community members. Songs by Patsy Klein and Peggy Lee as well as the Beach Boys and Elvis serve as but a sample of the breadth of music awaiting those who turn out for the event at Bootlegger’s Supper Club.
Following the Taste of Broadway performance last summer, the River Valley Revue marks the second time GFACT has held such a production. Other performances spawned by the organization include 2009’s “Guys and Dolls” and this past February’s “Arsenic and Old Lace.”
Speh said that GFACT sees great purpose in creating opportunities for community youth and adults to connect at a mentorship level?while also reveling in the opportunity to bring theatrical productions to the community that showcase the talent beneath their very noses.
“It’s just such a great organization to be a part of. I?think arts are so important for people of all ages and I’m really excited to be a part of a group that works so hard to make that happen. We like to entertain and I just hope that we do that,” Speh said.
Tickets for the musical performance and roast beef and marinated chicken, buffet-style dinner are still available but must be purchased by this Thursday evening.
“Show Only” tickets will be available on the day event, but only in limited number.
Tickets can be purchased either at Bootlegger’s Supper Club or by contacting Speh. Costs are $20 with dinner and $10 without.
The dinner portion of the evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and the performance at 7:30 p.m. A dessert will be served at intermission.
