AT: What brings you to YME?
RS: I was ready for a new adventure and a great job opened up at YME that was close to home, so here I am. :)
AT: Why'd you become a teacher, and what's the best part about it?
RS: September 11th occurred in my 3rd week of college as a freshman. Soon after, a family member was deployed to Iraq. I have also always thought that veterans and their stories needed to be taught to the next generation. Due to all of these aspects, I became a history teacher. The best thing about teaching is getting to know the kids I work with. This year I also get to help the 9th through 12th graders with getting prepared for college, as well as help them find and fill out scholarship info - I'm very excited about that new aspect of my job.
AT: What do you expect to be the most challenging aspect of your work?
RS: The most challenging aspect of my job is getting everything done in one day. I always have more ideas than I have time to implement.
AT: What do you bring that is unique?
RS: I have a ton of energy and like to make learning fun when class behavior allows it.
AT: Tell us about your family?
RS: My family's awesome. Someday I hope to be as cool as my niece and nephew.
AT: What do you like to do in your spare time?
RS: I love to discuss sports and attend games. Currently, I'm going through withdrawals of attending games at the University of Oklahoma (Sooners). I also have been blessed with a great church family and enjoy spending time with them. I love to travel internationally but also enjoy staying close to home and spending time with my family.
