The Yellow Medicine East tennis team’s season ended in earnest Thursday at first two rounds of the Section 3A Individual Tennis Tournament in Redwood Falls.
Only YME’s Jordan Glad made it as far as the quarterfinal round Thursday.
Glad, seeded ninth for the Sting, defeated River Valley's Becky Roiger 7-5, 6-3 to earn her way to the quarterfinals, but was quickly defeated by eventual section singles champion Aryn Eckstrom, 6-0, 6-0.
“Jordan played well against Eckstrom in the loss and will be a better player for it,” said YME head tennis coach Steve Barber. “If Jordan improves next year as much as she did this year she will be a top seed in next year's tourney.”
YME’s other singles entrant, Danielle Clark, lost to Luverne’s Kaitlin Wohnoutka 6-0, 6-1 after beating Nicole Scotting of Pipestone earlier in the day.
On the doubles' side, only YME's duo of Leah Gluth and Rachel Christensen managed a victory on Thursday. The pair defeated River Valley's Marlayna Evers and Erika Ries before falling to eventual section champions Megan Lahti and Michaela Nelson of St. James, 6-2, 6-2.
YME's other pairing, eighth-seeded Jordan Trotter and Britanna Raddatz lost to Fairmont's Camilla Hermanrud and Melissa Viesselman 6-1, 6-2 to end their year.
