The State of Minnesota has designated the week of October 22nd as Minnesota Manufacturer's Week.
The Granite Falls EDA will recognize local manufacturers at noon Wednesday, October 24 at the Granite Run Golf Course. Mark Lofthus, the Director of the Business and Community Development Division of the Department of Employment and Economic Development will be the featured speaker.
In addition, a few local manufacturing companies are inviting locals to tour facilities to learn about what they do.
On October 24, Marr Valve Company, located in the industrial park, will hold public tours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
On October 25, SpecSys, located on Highway 212, will offer tours from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
During his address at Granite Run, Lofthus will discuss the value of manufacturing to the Minnesota economy and the value of manufacturing education as careers for young people in today's economic market. He will also present certificates of commendation signed by Governor Dayton to each Granite Falls manufacturer.
Lofthus has a long title and has hands on experience with economic development in Granite Falls and the state of Minnesota. He, along with the late Granite Falls resident Elroy Burgeson, were responsible for founding the Southwest Initiative Foundation and locating their first office in Granite Falls in the mid eighties.
