For a new experience in working with youth, consider being a 4-H judge at local county fairs!
County fair project exhibition is the high point of the year for many youth. It is both a time to display their work and to think about how they have grown as a result of their involvement in 4-H. The adults who serve as judges play a key role in the conference judging process where projects are evaluated on 50% of the 4-Her’s knowledge and 50% of the final project. Topics covered include learning age appropriate questions, how to explain your placing, judging etiquette and more.
Training sessions are available on two dates and locations:
Tuesday, November 13 from 6:30-8:30pm at the University of MN Extension/Mid-MN Research & Outreach Center in Willmar.
Thursday, November 15 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Lyon County Courthouse in Marshall.
The cost is $10 a person which included supper, training and having your name added to the MN 4-H judge’s database. Registration is due by November 5th. This training is for current and potential 4-H judges. There is earning potential as a 4-H judge; this varies from county to county. Join us at one of these sessions to see what it’s all about or refresh your skills!
For more details, and to call and register for either training, contact the Renville County Extension Office at 800-450-2522 or 320-523-3713 by Monday, November 5!
