Minneota 69, YME 18
The Yellow Medicine East girls basketball team ran into a buzz-saw Friday as they faced the fifth-ranked team in Class A, the Minneota Vikings, and got crushed 69-18 at Espeland Gymnasium in Granite Falls.
The Vikings scored nearly four times as many points as the Sting, who have yet to find a victory this season. Meanwhile, Minneota is undefeated. Minneota shot a solid 40 percent from the field, while YME managed a paltry 11 percent shooting.
YME had three players tie for the team lead in scoring with four points each: senior Britanna Raddatz, junior Alexis Peters and sophomore Chyanne Sand, who also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Vikings were led by Taylor Reiss, one of the best athletes in the area in any sport. Reiss notched a double-double with a game-high 25 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Two other players also reached the double digits in scoring for the Vikings.
The Vikings (5-0 overall) will look to stay unbeaten in their next engagement as they travel to Tracy on Friday for a Camden Conference game. YME drops to 0-4 with the loss and returns to action for a home game against BOLD on Thursday.
