A week after the girls program got the first win in 2012-13 season for Yellow Medicine East basketball, the boys team said “don’t forget about us” with their fist win of the season: a 38-point fireworks celebration of a victory over Renville County West in Renville Monday.
“I knew we were capable of playing that well,” said YME head coach Jake Suter of his team capturing their first win in dominating fashion. “We just have not put it together for a full game.  We had our best week of practice of the year last week and I had a feeling things were going to go well.”
The Sting began their victory parade by opening up a 20 point lead in the first half. The Sting led 45-25 at the half as the parade turned down main street. Blake Lindstrom played the Grand Marshall leading the Sting with 21 points and six steals.
Austin Vikander followed with the band adding 12 points and eight assists. Logan DeBlieck “oom pah pahed” another 10 points as Tyson Velde clashed the cymbals with 10 boards.
“They were very happy,” said Suter of his team’s reaction to the victory. “They have kept a positive attitude and have worked hard all year. If they continue to put the work in at practice and in the weight room I expect us to continue getting better throughout the year.”
Lindstrom’s 21 points are a season high for the up-and-coming sophomore who’s played beyond his age for much of the season.
“Blake is a great shooter,” said Suter. “He is beginning to find his shot in the flow of the offense and not forcing shots out of rhythm. Much of this has to do with his teammates getting him the ball in a good position to score.  It has been fun to watch him grow as a player this season.”
