Every year that Nicole Zempel has served as Director of the Granite Falls Chamber of Commerce, attendance has dramatically risen at the Chamber’s annual community gala. With standup comedian Scott Novotny and musician funny man Glen Everhart headlining the 2013 event, this Saturday’s Chamber celebration has an opportunity to not only be the largest, but most uproarious.
Zempel, who is getting set to put on her sixth straight gala, said that the success has been driven by the Chamber Board’s intentions to create an atmosphere ideal for enjoying good food, stimulating conversation and top-notch entertainment. Long gone, she said, are situations of yesteryear wherein laborious speeches and the bestowing of various awards had become common place.
“We at the Chamber have worked quite hard to sort of flow with the times and with that, our hope has been that out-dated perceptions associated with this event will fade away once and for all,” she said. “This event serves the dual purpose of creating an evening event that is lighthearted, and a place for people to gather and enjoy each other's company, great entertainment and food. It's really that simple.”
This year's community celebration will be held on Saturday, January 26 at Bootlegger’s Supper Club. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with social hour and a background folk / blues inspired musical performance by Luther Cole, ensuing from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Cole will be singing original songs while also incorporating songs from the likes of Neil Young and John Prine.
Starting at 7:00 p.m., and running for the next hour, event-goers will have the opportunity to serve themselves a buffet style dinner that is to include roast beef/gravy, teriyaki chicken breast, roasted baby red potatoes, green beans, dinner roll, tossed salad, tortellini salad and cherry cheese cake.
At 8:00 p.m. the two shows will take place, one following the other. Scott Novotny is a professional stand-up comedian while Glen Everhart is musician and funnyman. Both have 30-plus years of experience a piece.
"Due to a tremendous amount of positive feedback regarding last years entertainment, we decided to book for 2013 with the same company, G.L. Berg Entertainment, and these guys came highly recommended," said Zempel.
Also being held during the evening is a silent auction that will feature an interesting array of items donated from local artists and businesses of the Granite Falls area.
"Our annual silent auction is an important fundraiser for the Chamber, and it's been a lot of fun thinking up and obtaining some unique items," said Zempel.
Tickets for the 2013 Granite Falls Chamber of Commerce Community Celebration are available at the Chamber of Commerce office for $30. The ticket includes both the price of dinner and all three entertainers. All proceeds go to Chamber in support of future endeavors and community initiatives.
