Malena Handeen and Field of Medicine hail from the Montevideo/Milan area and are always a local favorite.
Handeen's writing is informed by a lifestyle of farming and art-making that has yielded a multitude of fruits, not least Toothsome Favorites. This record is part autobiography and part Midwestern isolation and pride. Toothsome Favorites was recorded at the Loose Tooth Cowgirl Saloon of Art on Easy Bean Farm and at the Mojo Crib on Anhydrous Alley in Montevideo, Minnesota.
Malena sings and plays accordion with her father Richard and brother Daniel in the Field of Medicine and with her mother in the a cappella group Homemade Jam. Emily Wright, a local musician and teacher writes "Malena will help you let go of your small town Minnesota stereotypes, if you had any." Her music fuses blues, folk, zydeco and even a little hip hop at times.
