All of a sudden, Yellow Medicine East is on a winning streak. The Sting captured their second win—in a row—thanks to Kelly Anderson converting a lay-up in the final minute against Lac qui Parle Valley to put the Sting up 34-33 and help them slide to a 35-33 conference victory Tuesday night at LqPV High School.
Anderson made all four of the Stings’ field goals in the second half. Anderson was 6 of 8 at the line and finished with 16 points.
This was the first West Central Conference win for YME who are now 1-12 in conference play and 4-16 overall.
“This is a big week for us,” said YME head coach Scott Jans after the Sting got their first of two wins against Renville County West Monday night. “No disrespect to RCW, LqPV and Benson, but we feel that those are three winnable games. Our eyes are on playoffs now and we need every win we can get. We’d like to get up to that No. 6, or No. 7 seed. We’re definitly not interested in playing BOLD in the first round (BOLD recently beat the Sting 84-37).”
Chyanne Sand led the team in rebounding Tuesday night with 10. YME, as a team, was an impressive (for this year) 15-of-24 from the line.
