Rev. Dr. Stanley Duane Jurgenson was born in Clarkfield, September 30, 1937, to Erling B. and Mildred I. Jurgenson who were editors and publishers of the Clarkfield Advocate for almost 50 years. He died January 3, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Stan was a graduate of Clarkfield High School in 1955, and a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in 1959. He married Barbara Harlow in 1965. He graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology, Rock Island, IL in 1967. He spent 1968 in Clinical Pastoral Counseling; Institute of Religious Teaching, Houston, Texas, and completed his Master’s Degree at Brite Divinity School, Fort Worth, Texas. His Doctoral work was completed through the Veterans’ Administration as a chaplain of over 35 years. He was also honored to serve as a chief chaplain in the VA.
Stan was preceded in death by parents, grandparents and many relatives and friends. Left to remember him include his four children, four grandchildren, two in-laws – all residents of Las Vegas; and one sibling, Pastor Kay Jurgenson, of St. Paul.
Services for Stan will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield on Saturday, February 16, at 1:00 p.m. His cremains will be placed next to his parents in the Clarkfield cemetery.
Gifts in memory of Stan can be given to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans or to the Humane Society.
