Barbara Jane (Hezzelwood) Carlson, 92, of Shell Lake Wisconsin, formerly of Granite Falls, died peacefully on February 24, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1984 and by her sister Marlys Ellingson. She is survived by one daughter Katherine (Robert) Lovitt of Mesa, Arizona and one son Stephen (Gloria) Carlson of Shell Lake, Wisconsin; also by seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was born on November 23, 1920 in Sioux City, Iowa. She moved to Granite Falls while in junior high school and lived there for more than 60 years before moving to Mesa, Arizona and then to Shell Lake, Wisconsin. In her life she was most proud of being a loving and loyal wife and a loving dedicated mother. She was active in her community: She was an active member of the Granite Falls Lutheran church. Her political activities included being a member of the Granite Falls school board, city council, being mayor of the city, and a League of Women Voter activist. She operated a women’s clothing store and later became an associate travel agent and travel guide. She traveled all over the world .
