  •     Kermit “Snoose” Stanley Olson, 82, of Granite Falls,  succumbed to cancer on February 25, 2013 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 1, at Granite Falls Lutheran Church, 350 Ninth Ave, Granite Falls, MN 56241.  Pastors Steve Carmany and Leslie Neist will be officiating.  Kermit will be laid to rest at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Granite Falls.          Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, and one hour before the service on Friday, both at Granite Falls Lutheran Church.
Kermit was born on August 2, 1930 to Bert and Alma (Holtan) Olson in Stony Run Township, the fourth of six children.  He graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War in 1952-1953. On July 23, 1955 Kermit married Donna Froland in Clarkfield.  Kermit enjoyed golfing (proud of his hole-in-one), fishing, hunting, camping, reading Western fiction, putting together puzzles and socializing over coffee with friends.  He will be remembered for being an avid story-teller.
After his military service, Kermit worked for his father at Standard Oil and then at the Granite Redi-Mix.  While working for Red-Mix, he dug the basement for the first family home in 1958, and then again in 1962.  Kermit retired in 1990 after 35 years with the United States Postal Service, Granite Falls Post Office.  He served as a volunteer on the Granite Falls Fire Department for over 25 years.  Kermit was a long-time usher for services at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Kermit was an active member of the American Legion and VFW Posts and the Honor Guard.
Kermit is survived by his wife Donna of 57 years, children Susan (Steve) Midthun, Granite Falls; Sharon (Roger) Lipinski, Marshall; Brian (Kelly) Olson, Granite Falls; and Bruce (Mark) Olson, Golden Valley; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two sisters Helen (Robert) Lerohl of Sacred Heart, and Beverly (Ray) Frankenfeld of Minnetonka.      He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Randolph Olson, Bernice Schmidt, and Arden Olson.
Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, or the Willmar Regional Cancer Center, 301 Becker Ave SW, Willmar, MN.
Arrangements are by Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
