Orley M. Anderson, 91, of Makawao, Maui, Hawaii passed away peacefully on February 13, 2013 under Hospice Care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Kahului Maui on Saturday, March 2nd (family requests live orchids plants in lieu of cut flowers)
Memorial gifts may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran School Financial Aid Fund or Hospice Maui.
A native of Hazel Run, he was the son of Martin and Pearl (Berre) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. He graduated from Hanley Falls High School in 1939. He attended Augsburg College, Minneapolis, from 1939 – 1941. Orley left college to work at Lockheed Aviation in California until 1944 when he entered the Army and served with distinction in Europe including the Battle of the Bulge, the Ruhr Pocket and Remagen Bridge. His unit was assigned to the Berlin occupation until discharged in 1946. He continued his college education at the University of Southern California earning three degrees. He was a teacher and administrator at various California and Maui schools. He and his wife, Lucille (Thompson) retired to Maui, Hawaii to join their daughter, Beth, and her two children, Bryce and Jesse.
Orley was predeceased by his wife, Lucille, two brothers; Waldemore and Robert and two sisters; Joyce and Mary.
He is survived by daughter, Beth; son, Dale and brothers Verne (Mae) of Granite Falls and Myron (Patsi) of Arkansas; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Military Services will be held at Makawao Veteran’s Cemetery on Friday March 1.
