  • We are gearing up for our spring and summer seasons here at Yellow Medicine County Historical Society. Starting May 1 the museum opens for the 2013 season.
The season starts in the middle of April with our Annual Meeting. Please, mark Saturday April 13 on your calendars. The meeting will take place at Prairies Edge Casino.
Bill Palmer, a social studies teacher at Lakeview, will be our guest speaker. He will highlight a military veteran from Yellow Medicine County and discuss the importance and strategies for recording living histories from family and friends. Everyone is welcome to attend our Annual Meeting,
People are welcome to come use our genealogy library on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday mornings in March and April. Please call for an appointment. The museum and genealogy lab will be open Wednesday thru Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Come explore the new Military Room and other new exhibits we have at the museum. We turned our old storage area into a Military Room and it looks magnificent. We also hired a handy man through Experienced Works. His name is Doug Moll. Doug has been working hard all winter cleaning all the items on the floor of the museum. He also fixed several items such as our old sewing machines, our vatrola (record player), our piano & organ, and several other items. Come and check out the work Doug has been completing.
We are still looking for photos of the early settlers of each township in the county. Wedding, Family or Individual photos are welcome. The photos should have been taken between 1870 and 1920. Just bring the original photo to the museum and we will make a nice copy of it and you can take the original home with you.
We are also looking for family history and township history books that people would be willing to donate to the museum. We are trying to collect as much history on the early settlers of Yellow Medicine County as we can to make our collection complete.
Questions call 320-564-4479. Until next time take care and hope to see everyone at our Annual Meeting on April 13.
