When Club member Mark Ensley of New Orleans, Louisiana, needed to re-side his home, he quickly tired of taking the dozens of measurements for the placement of his lap-board siding. To speed up work and increase precision, he created a placement jig by cutting off the tip of his plastic speed square. With the square now shortened to the desired amount of siding reveal, all he needs do is place the lip of the square against the bottom edge of his first lap board. The top edge will then indicate the correct placement height for the next course.
