  • Following a 5-0 vote, Yellow Medicine County Commissioners have offered the position of County Administrator to present YMC Family Services Director Peg Heglund––and barring a last second change of heart it appears that the long-term YMC employee will accept the offer.
"I'm very upbeat, very excited to get started," Heglund said Tuesday evening. "I have many years of service with the county and am looking forward to continuing a working relationship with everyone at the county."
Commissioners originally offered the position to Dakota County Administrative Services Manager Heather Aagesen-Huebner. The county's first choice would pull out, however, after board members Louis Sherlin, Gary Johnson and Greg Renneke attempted to rescind the offer based on their displeasure with a request from the candidate to have an additional sit-down with board as well as a closer look at the area's offerings in general.
According to YMC Board Chair Ron Antony, testy feelings that arose as a result the aforementioned events were gone when board members held an additional interview Tuesday afternoon with their top three remaining candidates: Heglund, Redwood County Human Services Director II, Patrick Bruflat, and YMC Finance Director Michelle May.
"Personally, I believe what pushed Peggy above the rest was not only the administrative experience but her long time history as a part of the Yellow Medicine County family."
Heglund began working in the Yellow Medicine County Family Service Department in 1979 and has served in the capacity of Director since 2003. She holds a degree in Psychology from Moorhead State University.
According to Antony, Heglund has been given 24 hours to decide on whether she will accept the post.
Details of the agreement and the steps the board will take to hire a new Family Services Director will come forth at the board's next meeting May 13.
