The Granite Falls business community, with support from Granite Falls Riverfront Revitalization and the Granite Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, is asking shoppers to spend the third Thursday of each month falling in love with Granite Falls and local merchants.
Many Granite Falls businesses will be staying open until 7:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month beginning July 18 when many of them will hold their annual Crazy Days promotions. It’s hoped that the ‘Third Thursday’ event will carry on in perpetuity and develop as a monthly attraction in Granite Falls.
“It’s an idea everyone thought was good,” said Frogs on the Footbridge owner Mary Gillespie. “We thought if once a month we could get people open we could build an event around that. And get people used to the idea of coming to Granite Falls every Thursday.”
Gillespie said that the groups pushing the event are looking for side walk vendors, musicians, artists, or anything and everyone that might provide some fun, or be a draw to the event. The event will run from 4 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and those interested can contact either the GFRR, the Chamber of Commerce, or go to the events facebook page at facebook.com/pages/Fall-in-Love-with-Granite-Falls.
Vendors can set up either at Lende Plaza in downtown Granite Falls, or at Prairie Mercantile, who are offering their parking lot for the event, on Hwy. 212 east of Granite Falls.
On July 18 (the first third Thursday) the Granite Falls Historical Society will be hosting a walking tour of the Volstead House at 6 p.m. The tour will last an hour and cost $5. Also there will be a Granite Falls Riverside Art Hunt from 4-7:30 p.m. with clues posted on the ‘Fall in Love with Granite Falls’ facebook page.
Participating businesses for Third Thursdays, so far, include: Frogs on the Footbridge, K.K. Berge Art Gallery, Prairie Mercantile, Heather’s Book Nook, Granite True Value, Thrifty White Pharmacy, Riverside Bottle Shop, Hair Expressions by Kari, Therapeutic Massage Center on Prentice, The Dollar Stop/The Treasure Stop, Granite Floral, Korthuis Jewelry and Gifts and From the Ground Up
