  • At the end of their regular council meeting Tuesday night, the Clarkfield City Council elected to abandon the building that once housed the now defunct Clarkfield Police Department and demolish it.
The question of what to do with building has been raised several times since the council decided maintaining their police force within it was becoming a threat to public safety. This spring the council decided to move their police offices (soon to be run by the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff) to where the city offices had been in City Hall and move the city offices next door adjacent to the Clarkfield Library.
The building is limited in that it is not handicap accessible, may have some issues with mold, is difficult to heat and lacks hot water. City crews have been tasked with demolishing the building and covering the site with gravel fines.
Following his motion to tear the building down, councilman Robert Schlenner commented on Patel Family Dentistry's need for employee and patient parking and they are located next to the site.
