The third and fourth grade team traveled to Dawson last Thursday night to battle in the first ever Little Sioux Little League Championship.
The young men were poised to do well.  All of the hard nights of practice and regular season games lead up to this moment.
    Game one
    Minneota 7, Granite Falls 6
Granite started off with a bang in the first inning, all four batters in the top of the order reached base.  Ty Schulte's double drove in two runs to give Granite the lead.
The boys then went out into the field with solid defense.  It was a quick 1-2-3 inning.
Minneota gained some momentum of their own in the top of the second by holding Granite with out a run.  Then in the bottom of their home half of the second they plated four runs.  And Granite found themselves down 4-2.
Granite rallied in the top of the third.  They managed to get the base loaded for Nikson Knapper,  who came through with a huge hit to drive in Daniel Blue.  Cody Dahlager hit one deep in the gap, only to have the Minneota fielder come up with a great catch to end the inning.
Now Granite was just down a run.  Holding Minneota scoreless in the home half, they started another rally in the top of the 4th.
Taylor Mortiz sent a double in the gap scoring Dexter Pardick. Later in the inning, Tyler Syring singled home Mortiz.
The back and forth game continued into the bottom of the fourth: Minneota plates two more runs.
Going into the fifth and final inning, Granite needed a run to stay alive.   Down one run Tyler Nordaune came up big, hitting a double in the gap, Daniel Blue's great hustle scored the tying run.
After the play at the plate, the Minneota catcher threw out Nordaune at 3rd to end the Granite threat.
Tied going to the bottom of the fifth and final inning, Minneota was just too much.  Minneota eventually scored the winning run.  It was a hard fought emotional game for the young team.
