Friday's match up: YME (0-5, 0-2) vs. BOLD (3-2, 2-1), 7:00 p.m. at YME.
Last match up: 2012, 60-12 BOLD victory
Warriors preview: The last time BOLD faced YME, they were in the middle of an undefeated regular season, gearing up for a run at Class AA state football, where they lost in the finals to Caledonia. Luckily for the Sting, the Warriors are not returning with the same team. Although still boasting a winning record, you would have to go back three seasons to find a regular season in which BOLD had two losses, let alone at only halfway through the season. As this season has developed, the Warriors have relied less and less on passing plays, with only eight total attempts last week and three the week before that. However, with players like Trent Athmann and Ben Steffel who have rushed for more than 100 yards a game multiple times this season, the Warriors are not hurting offensively.
Sting preview: With an 0-5 record, any change in strategy appears to be an improvement. The Sting are coming off of a hefty loss to Paynesville, currently the conference and section leaders, but that is not to say that they played a bad game. YME was almost a different team in the first half, scoring on their first drive and holding off Paynesville's dominant offensive and entering the second half down by only one point. If the Sting could harness that kind of gameplay again and maintain that momentum, this Friday could be an interesting game, and with no better time for that to arise than at their own homecoming.
