  • Progress is being made at the Yellow Medicine County Government Center in downtown Granite Falls.  However, Janel Timm, Property and Public Services Department Director said the move would not affect the payment of fall taxes.  They will continue to be housed in the Courthouse until the facility is 'move-in' ready and that will be after the payments are due.
Since June 2013, renovations have been occurring at the former Fagen, Inc. building on 8th Avenue.
At the Courthouse, staff in the Property and Public Service Department (PPSD), along with the Finance and Administration Department has been busy deciding what they need to conduct business at the new facility.  According to PPSD Director, Janel Timm, the staff have been great about taking time out of their normal schedules to do some 'cleaning' and organizing.  A large "To Do" list hangs on Timm's door and each day another item is scratched off.
In addition to the physical changes, the PPSD department has met to learn how to efficiently plan for the change in how they do business.  Utilizing the latest strategies of the LEAN process, they are creatively changing how they conduct transactions to accommodate the new "One-Stop-Shop" approach that will be the focus for business after the move.  The goal is for the citizens of the county to have a seamless experience.
In addition to the PPSD, the Finance and Administration staff are also looking forward to the move.  Michelle May, Finance Manager; Brenda Peterson, Finance Deputy; Ashley Soine, HR and Administrative Deputy and Peggy Heglund, County Administrator will also be housed at the Government Center.
Once the move is complete, the County Commissioner meetings will be held at the Government Center.
The goal is to move in mid-November.  If you want to follow our progress, please check out the Yellow Medicine County website at www.co.ym.mn.gov and click on the first link titled Yellow Medicine County Government Center Progress.
