Funeral services were held Monday, November 4 at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in Granite Falls.                 Visitation was at 10:00 a.m. at the church following the committal service.
Terry (Theresa) Smogard was born August 12, 1923 to Steve and Julia Fautsch in Benton County.  At the age of 18, she headed for Minneapolis where she worked at various places.  She married Kenneth Smogard in 1949 and moved to Clarkfield, where they owned and operated Terry’s Café.  After 5 years of hard work and long hours, they moved to a farm in Stony Run Township.  Many memories were shared there.  They moved their family into Granite Falls along the Minnesota River. Terry worked at Rosy’s Super Club, Bronze Boot, and Granite Manor and Hospital until she started her long time job at Plews as a punch press operator.  She retired in 1988, and since then she continued to share her generosity as a volunteer at Granite Falls Lutheran Church on Altar Guild, Women’s Guild, Co-Chair for Women’s Circle and the work group.  She was very active with the local Rice Hospice Program. Theresa touched many lives as a Hospice Volunteer, and later as a Volunteer Coordinator.  In 2005 she was chosen Outstanding Senior Citizen Volunteer in Yellow Medicine County.  Terry was also active with the Senior Advisory Board, the Senior Center and Living at Home Block Nurse Program.  She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing, baking, making potato klub and visiting neighbors and friends. Terry died peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Granite Falls Hospital at the age of 90.
She is survived by her children: Greg (Laura) Smogard of Southlake, TX and Cindy (Alan) Velde of Hanley Falls; grandchildren: Brian (Heather) Velde, Lisa (Brad) Rustman, Danielle Smogard and Ashley Smogard; great grandchildren: Bryce, Reid and Eve Rustman, Morgan and Kendra Velde; her siblings: Ambrose Fautsch, Joseph (Margaret) Fautsch and Marcella Hanson; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Terry was preceded in death in 2005 by Kenneth, her husband of 56 years as well as many of her siblings.
