  • Gone are the days where parents needed only to worry about having the “sex talk,” nowadays they need to have to the “tech talk” too.
This past Monday the Yellow Medicine East School District hosted a “Cyber Safety - Catching Up With High Tech Kids” presentation for families of the YME school district.
Held in the Little Theater, roughly 20 parents and YME teachers and staff turned out for the presentation by Minnetonka Public School Technology Director David Eismann.
Eismann’s presentation covered the basic concepts that parents needed to get across to their children, such as that which goes online has the potential to exist on the internet forever.
Eismann told parents that their kids needed to “be safe, think first and choose the right thing” and offered the “grandma test”  as a good rule of thumb.
“If a grandma wouldn’t approve of it, then you shouldn’t digitize it,” he said.
Eismann offered a comprehensive list of materials that parents can access to stay up-to-date on the latest internet trends by visiting the web address: http://tinyurl.com/Cyber Resources
