Hello Granite Falls!
My name is Betsy Nielsen, and I am the new Granite Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Director. I started October 28th and worked closely with Nicole for the week to learn the responsibilities as a Chamber Director. I suppose like any new job it was a whole lot of information to take in and dive right into. It has been a comfortable transition and Nicole has been great to work with.
I have been a member of the community since June of 2011 when my husband, Pete, and I purchased a home in Granite Falls. I have never been "the new kid" anywhere so the adjustment period was a little treacherous at times, but then I started working at Hair Expressions by Kari. In October of 2012, I started teaching a water aerobics class twice a week at the Kilowatt Community Center. I have met so many genuinely amazing people through these outlets.
Nicole's work at the Chamber has been focusing on the Shop Local Campaign, and I've looked to pick up where she left off. Small Business Saturday is quickly approaching, and is a relatively new idea. American Express decided to launch Small Business Saturday three years ago. It falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, two big days to your avid shoppers. The idea is to promote the Mom and Pop shops whose very presence makes a hometown, your hometown. I encourage everyone to go out November 30th and pick up a nice gift for someone on your Christmas list from one of Granite Fall's many businesses.
The Chamber has also been very busy planning our Annual Mid-Winter Celebration, which falls on January 25th this year. This event features exciting entertainment provided by Divas through the Decades, a musical tribute to some of the industry's most influential women. We will be serving Bootlegger's finest food, and socializing with friends, old and new. If you would like a ticket they are available at the Chamber office for $30.00. They make excellent Christmas gifts for that person on your list that has everything! I hope to see you there!
My first week at the Chamber solo has been so rewarding. I am meeting so many business owners, and fine citizens of Granite Falls. My hope for the Chamber is to continue working hard at promoting the town of Granite Falls through our local businesses and town events. I look forward to serving the Granite Area, and I would love to meet each and every one of you! Our hours are Monday-Thursday 9-5 and Fridays 9-12. Feel free to drop by the K.K. Berge building to meet me, and see what the Chamber can do for you.
