  •    Hagen "Skip" Thorkelson, 61, died unexpectedly on November 5, 2013 at his home in Minneapolis.  
        His Celebration of Life Service is Saturday, November 16, 2 p.m. at Granite Falls Lutheran Church, Granite Falls. with visitation one hour prior.  
        Skip, the son of Loraine and Hagen Thorkelson, was born in Granite Falls. He was baptized and confirmed at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Skip graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1970, attended Moorhead State University and graduated from Elkins School of Broadcasting in Colorado.
        As a young man, Skip lived in Denver, CO where he was food and beverage manager at the Airport Sheraton. He moved to Fresno and Clovis, CA where he managed a Red Wing shoe store. Upon returning to Minnesota in 1991 he lived in Granite Falls, St. Peter and most recently Minneapolis where he worked at the Metrodome and Target Field.
        He loved sports, politics, books, movies and music.  He was an avid reader and could carry on a conversation with anyone about anything.  His social and charismatic nature blessed everyone with joy and humor.  He was kind, thoughtful and hardworking.  Skip loved his family and God and was active attending and serving at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.  He inspired us to live in gratitude and hope every new day.
        Skip is survived by his daughter Jackie Antonino of CA; sisters Mari (Patrick Foley) of Willmar, Ann of Mankato; brothers Tom (Nancy) of St. Peter and Bob (Theresa) of Baxter; nieces Berit (Clint) Buckner, Leah and Abby; nephews BJ (Libby), Erik and Jack, great niece Vera; and great nephews Roy and Arlo; and many cousins and friends.          He was preceded in death by his parents.
        Arrangements are with Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
