The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team opened their season with a loss. The home game fell to the Minnewaska Laker’s favor, ending the night at 66-40.
The Lakers dominated the ball for most of the night, partially in part to four steals by the Laker’s Austin Ostrander, who also led both teams with 21 points. Derek Burd was the only other Minnewaska player to crack double digits with 10 points.
Grant Lalim was the highest scorer for the Sting, leading with 14 points, while Tyson Velde led both teams in rebounds with 15. In steals, Lalim, Velde and Logan DeBlieck racked up two apiece.
Minnewaska had the upper hand coming into the game just by sheer number of players, bringing as many seniors as YME has for their entire varsity roster.
The next outing for the Sting is an away game on Monday against Redwood Valley. The last time they faced each other was in the first round of Sections, where Redwood Valley eventually won and continued on to lose at the State tournament in double overtime against Litchfield.
