After two years at the post at Yellow Medicine East, High School / Middle School Principal Michael Meihak tendered his resignation to the school board.
Meihak accepted a position at Faribault Middle School as the principal, which is a step up in population from YME.
“It goes about 300 kids per grade level,” Meihak said. “I will be at the middle school, which is sixth, seventh and eighth grade, so around 900 students.”
Despite taking the new position, Meihak says he will look back on his time at Yellow Medicine East with fond memories.
“It was a good fit, a good experience,” Meihak said. “The staff is a quality staff and has a lot going for it.”
Meihak came to YME after a year-long  stint with the Hawaii Department of Eduction. Before that, he served as the 7-12 principal at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (JWP) in Janesville.
Part of the decision came from wanting to be closer to his family, who live in Janesville. He begins his new job officially on July 1 of this year.
“We wish Mr. Meihak well in his new opportunity,” Superintendent Al Stoeckman said. “This will be good for he and his family to be together, and we thank him for his service to our district.”
Although the open position has already been posted, the school board will vote on approving his resignation on Monday night’s meeting. Applications will be accepted until April 18 when the screening process will begin.
