The Yellow Medicine East administration faced another shake up, as Bert Raney Elementary Principal Melissa Hesch announced her resignation.
Hesch has accepted a position as Elementary Principal at Eagle View in Pequot Lakes.
The decision was made to be closer to family members who live in the Pequot Lakes area. Both Melissa and her husband have family within an hour of Pequot Lakes, also close to the friendship network they have previously established.
“The ultimate excitement is being able to get closer to our families,” Hesch said.
Pequot Lakes, 20 miles north of Brainard, has a school district roughly twice the size of Yellow Medicine East. but Eagle View, which houses Pre-K through fourth graders, has roughly 600 students.
But the excitement of returning home does not replace the “bittersweet” feelings of leaving the YME district.
“I have an incredible staff, and a great group of students,” Hesch said. “I can’t say enough about how hard they have worked. It has truly been a family to be apart of. I will miss them all dearly.”
Others have already expressed the same bittersweet feelings about Hesch leaving, including members of the school board during Monday night’s meeting.
“Thank you for all you have done for us,” School board member Dawn Odegard said, after joking that they didn’t have to accept her resignation request to get Hesch to stay.
Hesch’s new position begins on July 1st, so the BRE Principal post has already been added to the district’s website to begin the process of finding Hesch’s replacement.
