A busy week also produces a win against defending State champions
YME lost back-to-back one-run games against ACGC on Tuesday afternoon, a double-header hosted at Highland Park while Richter Field still recovers from an early winter.
The Falcons took an early lead in the first game after two runs in the first inning. After several innings, the Sting got on the board with an RBI sacrifice fly by Joe Sannerud, allowing Dylan Johnson to cross home, coming off of his own double and a single by Grady Rydeen.
After the first inning stumble, Austin Vikander held his own on the mound, keeping the Falcons to their initial two runs, adding five strikeouts. Falcon’s pitcher Brody Larson had the credited win, striking out nine Sting batters.
Joe Sannerud continued a RBI hot streak with a two-run single in the second game. Blake Lindstrom, Dylan Johnson, Austin Vikander and Zach Fischer all supplied hits for the near-winning effort.
While the Sting initially held a 4-2 lead, the Falcons took advantage of several fielding errors to gain three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Derrick Grund and Zach Fischer each earned an RBI to account for the Sting’s two runs. Blake Lindstrom added two hits for the Sting, bringing their total to six compared to three hits for the Eagles

YME 7, BOLD 4
YME finally found their first win of the season, bringing an eight game drought to a close. Remarkably enough, BOLD was not only the Class A state champions last season, but the Warriors were also defending a 16-game winning streak.
While the Warriors eclipsed YME in hits, the Sting took advantage of wild pitching, including five walks by Austin Weis. Blake Lindstrom and Dylan Johnson both crossed homeplate twice, driven in by Derrick Grund, who had three RBIs on two hits. Austin Vikander and Chase Richter also had a run each.
Vikander was credited with the win after pitching three innings, giving up the only BOLD runs in the third and fourth innings.
Relief pitcher Athmann had a commanding five innings, including eight strike outs, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the early Sting lead.
