  •     Marvin G. Stelter, age 88, of Echo, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.  
        Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta.          Burial was in the Vesta Cemetery.

        Marvin Gilbert Stelter was born on January 3, 1926 in Echo Township to Walter and Emma (Kuehn) Stelter.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vesta,  grew up in the Echo area, and graduated from Echo High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Radio Operator during World War II, and returned to farming following his honorable discharge from the service.
        On June 22, 1958, he and Marie Keil were married at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. He and Marie lived their entire married life near Echo on the farm where he was born.  In 1962, he helped organize the National Farmers Organization in Yellow Medicine County and was elected its charter president.  He retired from farming in 1990, and since 1991 he and Marie spent winters in Texas where they built a home in Fredericksburg.
        He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Echo; two sisters, Adeline (Harold) Tabberson of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jeanette (Lorenz) Degner of Eden Prairie; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
        He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Lorraine Remmele and Arline Busack.
