The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office is asking that any individuals who believe they might have been stopped by a man posing as an off-duty police officer contact the sheriff’s office.
According to YMC Sheriff Bill Flaten, an 18-year-old man, wearing a shirt that said “Sheriff” and driving a 2001 Red Ford Explorer with multiple blue LED light in the front and rear of the vehicle as well as 2 x 2.5 inch “K-9 sticker on its doors, was reported by Porter residents to have identified himself as an off-duty sheriff’s deputy.
Police traced the license of the vehicle, registered in Marshall, and apprehended the suspect for questioning. At this point, no charges have been filed and the level of those imposed on the individual may be influenced by additional information.
Flaten said that law enforcement did not want to release the name of the suspect until charges had been filed. The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Department can be reached at 320-564-2130.
