River Ramblings.....

Posted Feb 17, 2012 @ 08:00 AM

Despite having a nagging cold, we took in the CURE banquet last weekend in the old Hollywood Theater building in downtown Monte. The event was well attended and it was a chance to catch up a bit with the likes of former Congressman and soon to be retired Minnesota Appeals Court Judge Dave Minge,
Dave told me that he will likely be serving as a fill -in for other Appeals Court judges who are on vacation, on leave or when the court has a bulge in its caseload. He is also looking at the possibility of teaching at a law school in the Twin Cities. He has some experience doing that before his time in Western Minnesota, having been a law professor at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
He was one of the founders of CURE and wrote the articles of incorporation for the group. Soon thereafter, he ran for Congress and won the seat representing the old Second District. His previous experience at holding elective office had been serving on the Monte School Board.

Preview of Sunday’s Academy Awards

Posted 49 minute(s) ago

Whatever happened to the youth movement at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences? Younger hosts, hipper movies and A-list stars were supposed to be the recipe for alleviating anemic ratings for the annual Oscar telecast. But you’d never know it judging by this year’s crop of nominees, two of which are in their 80s, or the show’s host, 63-year-old Billy Crystal. Even the nominees for Best Picture are set in days of old.
