Photography, bird baths, ornament making, basket weaving, Zentangle, woodcarving– all are classes our area can enroll in thanks to the Granite Falls Arts Council (GFAC).
This past July, Bill Van der Hagen of Cottonwood led a class on photography for those who wished to enhance their skill in the use of their cameras. Van der Hagen taught skills including how to use natural light, how to enhance an image with background control, and -also taught how to achieve the basic compositions of a photo.
Just recently, GFAC offered to teach others how to make bird baths and ornaments for lawn and gardens; the class was led by Kaye Thorkelson and Jan Wambeke. The class used cement mix and large leaves from plants to create large ornaments shaped like a leaf. The ending result is gorgeous and is actually a very easy and quick project.
Claire Swanson will be teaching others the art of basket-weaving on August 17 in the basement of the library at the Senior Center in Granite Falls. Swanson’s own work will also be shown at the Meander Art Crawl later this fall.
In September, JoAnn Almich will be teaching others about Zentangle, an art form of intricate tangles. With only paper, pencils, and pens, Almich will teach others how to turn doodles into elaborate art designs; drawing will help to improve focus as well as develop dexterity.
GFAC may host a woodcarving class in September as well. The class is planned to be taught by Don Fischer who has been carving for 25 years; the dates have yet to be finalized.
If interested in participating in any of the above classes, or a repeat of a class, please contact any one of the GFAC members: Tamara Isfeld, Lavonne Saquilan, Brad Hall, Bill Van der Hagen, Diane Ladner, Katy Kimpling, Collette Lehti Bev Tellefson, or Nicole Zempel.
