Have you always wanted to attend a dinner theater for a night, but never had the time to organize a trip all the way to the Twin Cities? Thanks to the Granite Falls Area Community Theater (GFACT), the dinner theater experience will be brought to you. Next Thursday night, August 11, performers from across our area will be staging their own dinner theater experience at Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort entitled “A Taste of Broadway.”
The show features a few key songs from many broadway musicals, including Wicked, Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, and many more. The choreographed music will be performed from citizens of all ages.
“[GFACT] decided to provide the dinner theater experience to give our community a chance to perform their favorite broadway shows,” Mary Virnig, a GFACT board member, states. “It provides entertainmet you can’t get out here; the closest place you can get a dinner theater experience aside from here is Chanhassen.”
Aside from the music, Prairie’s Edge will be serving homestyle herb-baked chicken, slow-roasted top round beef with a mushroom glaze, baby red potatoes, wild rice pilaf, green beans almondine, house salad, fruit salad, and dessert for dinner.
“There are a few songs from each show we’re doing– solos, duets, trios, ensembles– there’s something for everyone,” Jeff Iverson explains, another board member. “There are songs from modern musicals to sixty years ago.”
A silent auction will also be held, featuring locally donated items from area businesses.
GFACT, organized in 2008, usually organizes one show each year, Virnig explains. “After [A Taste of Broadway] is performed, we will meet and determine what we have in mind for next year.” Including Virnig and Iverson, other board members of GFACT include Elaine Hauger, Carrie Speh, Jarett Berg, and Amy Wandersee.
A Taste of Broadway will be performed Thursday, August 11 at Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort with the silent auction open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner starting at 6:00 p.m. At 6:50 p.m.  the auction will close in order for the show to start at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and can be found at the Granite Falls Bank and the Chamber of Commerce, and all are welcome to come glimpse at our area’s talent in the fine arts and enjoy a memorable, entertaining evening.v
