The Upper Sioux Community will receive financing for the proposed expansion for the Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Prior Lake, according to a press release issued by the Shakopee Mdewakanton tribe.
The $9 million loan and $1 million grant is expected go towards the addition of approximately 80 additional hotel rooms, 15,000 square feet of adjunct meeting and gaming space, plus renovations to existing areas such as the buffet and bar.
Upper Sioux Community Board Chair Kevin Jensvold recently said that the project will go forward so long as construction bids come in at acceptable levels.
According to the press release Jensvold said, “The Upper Sioux Community would like to thank the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community for their continued support of our Nation. Through your generosity and commitment to assist other tribes, our casino/hotel project can move forward and will allow the Upper Sioux Community to better attain our financial goals, thus improving the quality of life for our Nation.”
The $10 million is a portion of the $54 million in economic development loans and grants that have been issued by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community thus far in 2010. In 2009, the tribe provided a total of $129 million for economic development projects.
