The Syttende Mai celebration in Milan is right around the corner on Saturday, May 20. Syttende Mai actually means 17th of May and it is the day the Constitution of Norway was signed back in 1814. This year’s celebration starts at 10 a.m. with the Kviteseid Smorgaas Tea featuring many Norwegian foods including blød klub, Norwegian meatballs, open faced sandwiches, lefse, flatbrød, waffles, rommegrøt, fruit soup, Kranse kake, riskem with rød saus, spritz sandbakkels, krumkakka, and lots of other yummy things. The musicians will start downtown on two stages at 11 a.m. We have KARE 11’s Sven Sundgaard, the consummate Norwegian, in town to help us celebrate this year. He and Judi Bohm will co-host the Uffda Parade as MC’s. They will be kicking off the parade with a program at 1:30 p.m. The parade starts immediately after at 2 p.m. and proceed down Main Street. Children’s activities of all kinds will be by the gazebo immediately following the parade. Put this event on your calendars and celebrate Syttende Mai in Milan!!
